IF you’re about to run the Comrades Marathon or if you simply want to know where the best place to watch the race is, then make sure you get a copy of the Official Spectators’ Guide, which will be distributed with Weekend Witness on Saturday.

The guide features profiles on the top contenders for the race on June 15, KZN runners Grace de Oliveira and Carol Mercer, and Westville’s Dave Rogers, who is going for his 43rd Comrades medal this year.

There is also a special feature on the best spectator points along the route, provided by Norrie Williamson; maps and advice on the best way to get to the start in Durban and the finish in Pietermaritzburg; and details on which roads will be closed and when.

We are also encouraging readers and runners to log on to the Witness website, which has a dedicated Comrades Marathon page.

It includes a map of various points along the route, and spectators are encouraged to send in photographs from race day to be published on the page. In addition, runners and spectators can access articles, interviews, race information, route access, best viewing spots and maps.

And if you want to look at how to effectively prepare for the Comrades Marathon, check out Williamson’s weekly podcasts. The series includes a host of information to help runners prepare for the race. Log on to www.witness.co.za and click on the Multimedia link to access the podcasts, which are sponsored by Linebreak.
