THE Msunduzi Municipality has a new chief financial officer in Nelisiwe Mvelase Ngcobo (43), who currently occupies the same position at the Royal Household Trust.

Ngcobo told The Witness she was excited and looked forward to the challenge.

The married mother of one takes over from Vela Mtshali.

“With the full co-operation of the staff, we will work to turn this municipality around,” she said.

Her appointment will be officially announced at today’s full council meeting, and she will start in her new job on Friday.

Ngcobo started work at the Royal Household Trust last year.

“I started out as a junior accountant at Telkom in 1997, after graduating with a BCom degree from the University of Zululand,” she said.

Ngcobo left Telkom in 2005, having risen to the position of operations manager, to work for the Luthuli Museum, where she served as CFO until 2008.

In that year she joined the eThekwini Hospital and Heart Centre in Durban, where she worked as finance manager.

The following year she moved to the municipal support programme, which assists municipalities in the province to improve their finances.

She worked there until October of last year, when she joined the Royal Household Trust.
