POWER outages struck again yesterday, affecting several suburbs on two consecutive days, which has become the norm in Pietermaritzburg.
Yesterday’s outages marked the second day of not having power for Hilton. On Tuesday night most parts of the area were plunged into darkness.
The northern suburbs were also hit by these power outages.
Other areas that were affected included the Lincoln Meade and the Scottsville areas.
Msunduzi Municipality spokesperson, Brian Zuma said the outages in Lincoln Meade and Scottsville were as a result of switches blowing up in a substation near the Golden Horse Casino, which feeds the same areas. However, yesterday afternoon Zuma said that power had been restored to the areas.
Zuma said the upgrade of the Hilton and Sweetwaters line will cost R15 million, and would “commence within six weeks”.
