Durban’s public transport lane system on the western freeway got off to a smooth start, despite dismay expressed earlier by some taxi operators.
Metro Police spokesman Captain Eric Khuzwayo said no incidents were reported.
“People just have to get used to the new lanes and it will be great for the city. There have been no complaints so far …” he said.
Lisa Reddy, who uses the freeway to get to Musgrave, said that while the public transport lanes are a great idea, it will only work if buses and taxis make use of them every day.
“It would definitely ease the congestion during peak traffic,” she said.
