THE condition of Underberg farmer Graeme Anderson, who was hospitalised with rabies several weeks ago, has suddenly deteriorated.

“He is critical,” his friend and family spokesperson, Dr Grant Lindsay, said yesterday.

Last week Snethemba Hlongwane (10), of Bergville, died after being bitten by a dog suspected of carrying rabies. He will be buried this weekend.

Jeffrey Zikhali, spokesperson for the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, said people should take any bites, licks and scratches by animals seriously, especially if they are unsure if the animal is infected with rabies.
