TELEVISION viewers are being asked to tell the SABC what they think about its programming, as part of planned protest action against the national broadcaster today.

Unions, actors and musicians are taking part in the protest and the organisers — the Television Industry Emergency Coalition (TVIE), want the public to get involved. A spokesman for the organisation said the SABC is not fulfilling its mandate to provide compelling entertainment.

“We are expected to pay our TV licences; in return, we expect SABC to fulfil its mandate. The current monetary and management crisis at SABC means we are being fed a diet of repeat programming and foreign content”.

Viewers can SMS their views to the SABC at 31970. All SMS must start with the word TV and cost 50 cents.
