TWO men were sentenced to life in prison in the Ramsgate high court recently for a murder they committed more than two years ago.

In August of 2008, the family of Nomvula Ngubane (30), who was a constable stationed at Phoenix police station, reported her missing in the Durban area.

Her vehicle, a VW Polo Playa, was also reported stolen.

The following month the decomposed body of a woman was found hanging from a tree in Craigieburn in the Umkomaas area.

The woman was later identified as Ngubane.

The same day, three suspects were arrested in the Umlazi area in Durban.

They were found in possession of Ngubane’s vehicle and other stolen property.

The three suspects — Frans Spelele Khomo, Godfrey Khomo, and Skhumbuzo Ndlovu — were charged with murder.

They made several court appearances. Ndlovu died in Scottburgh Hospital of natural causes.

On Friday, the remaining two accused were convicted of murder and theft.

They were each sentenced in the high court in Ramsgate to life imprisonment for the murder and seven years imprisonment for the theft of the vehicle and other property.

The case was investigated by Captain Fred Myburgh of the DPCI organised crime section.
