Don’t put your warm winter blankets away just yet as the South African Weather Services (Saws) has warned of a chilly weekend ahead for KwaZulu-Natal residents.

Weather forecaster, Thandiwe Gumede, said they are expecting a cold front to pass through KZN on Saturday, and after it has passed, they are expecting the temperatures to drop significantly.

Gumede said the drop in temperatures will only be experienced on Sunday after the passage of the cold front.

“The passage of the cold front will be accompanied by an upper air system and that is why the temperatures will drop quite significantly towards the end of the weekend into early next week due to the system,” she said.

Gumede said the system is expected to move quite fast as by Sunday it will mostly be affecting the eastern parts of the country, and not affecting the Drakensberg in KZN.

She said for now there is a possibility of snowfall over Lesotho on Sunday, but there are no indications of any snowfall in KwaZulu-Natal yet. She said conditions may change.
