‘Durban will be safe during ANC conference’

eThekwini Metro Police spokesperson Boyce Zungu said they were well prepared and ready for the event.

As the ANC provincial conference is drawing closer, eThekwini Metro police have assured the public that law and order will be upheld around the city.

The party is holding its elective conference at Durban’s Olive Convention Centre from Friday to Sunday.

“We are not treating this event differently from other events that the city hosts. It is all about security and for people both visitors and locals to feel safe.

Nothing is undermined when you deal with security issues so in this case we will make sure that everything goes as planned

He said there will be heavy police visibility on all the roads leading to the Olive Convention Centre, which is the conference venue. He said there was no need for people or businesses to worry during the weekend of the conference.

There will be police up to the area towards the hotels. Masabalala Yengwa, Bantrey Beach, Somtsewu and other roads will be manned by Metro police. We can assure the public and other stakeholders that we have drawn up a plan and it will be effected with precision

On Monday party provincial spokesperson Nhlakanipho Ntombela said they were not worried about security and were positive that the event will go well.
