ActionSA is expected to announce its replacement for its former eThekwini councillor Makhosi Khoza on Thursday.
Party provincial spokesperson Busi Hadebe said they sent a letter to council speaker Thabani Nyawose informing him about the party’s decision on Khoza on Tuesday.
“[On Thursday] we will issue a statement announcing a replacement. We can’t be talking about names now, but the replacement is available and the council will hear about the name tomorrow,” said Hadebe.
She said since they have a seat on the Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC), that did not guarantee them another go at the chairperson position.
Hadebe said:
Khoza could not be reached for comment on Wednesday.
She had a fallout with party leadership when she, on numerous occasions, took decisions that were not in line with those of her party. In eThekwini, she contested the MPAC seat against her party’s wishes and won it.
She was suspected of having accepted votes from ANC councillors who went on to elect her as the eThekwini MPAC chairperson. The party recalled her in December and disciplinary processes were underway. On Monday, the party announced its decision to expel her from its ranks.
Nyawose confirmed receipt of the letter from the party informing him of the dismissal and the process to bring in a replacement.
