ANC supporters protested outside the Greytown Magistrate’s Court on Monday calling for a man charged with the murder of ANC councillor, Thembinkosi Lombo (35), to be denied bail.
Lalelani Zondi (20) was arrested in Jeppestown in Johhannesburg last week.
Lombo’s sister, Ntombenhle Lombo, said her brother’s death left a huge void in the family.
“We demand justice for my brother, who was killed for no reason. His death has left us with many unanswered questions.
“We gathered outside court to oppose bail. The community of Mbuba was still expecting a lot from him. His death left a huge void in the lives of Mbuba residents,” she said.
The matter was adjourned to April 13 for a bail application.
Lombo died in a hail of bullets in Durban Street, Greytown, after unknown men opened fire on him on February 25. He was attending a virtual full council meeting at the Town Hall with other councillors when he allegedly received a call and left the meeting. He was shot after leaving.
