Eskom has warned of a risk of load shedding at short notice due to the power system being severely constrained.
According to a statement from Eskom, there is a shortage of generation capacity which could result in the power system being constrained on Monday evening and for the next few weeks.
“There are a number of generating units expected to return to service during the day today but the likelihood of load shedding is high and may be required at short notice, most likely during the evening peaks between 17:00 and 22:00,” said the power utility.
Eskom added that on Monday it had 5 232MW out on planned maintenance, while another 14 623MW of capacity was unavailable due to breakdowns.
Eskom continued to urged people to help limit the impact of the shortages by using electricity sparingly especially between 5am and 9am in the mornings as well as 4pm and 10pm in the evenings.
