The South African Democratic Teachers Union in the Ugu region wants to find the reason behind the killing of teachers in the KZN South Coast region.
This comes after the principal of Maria Trost Junior Primary School, Gugulethu Sijadu was found gunned down with his wife, Thembelihle, in their home in St Faiths last week.
According to Sadtu Ugu regional secretary Vuyani Mbhele Sijadu was the second teacher who had been killed in the district in less than three months.
Sijadu knew he was in danger
Meanwhile, a family member who did not want to be named said Sijadu had been talking about his life being in danger two years ago.
“He never said who these people were or where they were from but he also emphasised that he did not feel safe,” they said.
In 2020, Sijadu called a family meeting where he said he was afraid that should he die, we would die along with him, they added.
Mbhele of Sadtu said they would welcome any arrest, in the same way they did in the case of Tholakele Cynthia Shelembe, a teacher at Makhoso Primary School, who was murdered in her Nyangwini home in November last year.
