The Mangosuthu University of Technology said it has heightened safety and security at all its residences following the gruesome death of a student at one of its student residences in Durban on Sunday morning.
According to a statement released by the acting vice-chancellor and principle of the university, Professor Ramogale, the student, Xolile Mbatha, was an electrical engineering student at the university.
“The murder is the subject of police investigations. It is believed that the male student (allegedly responsible for the killing) fled the scene and is still on the run.
“While MUT is still trying to come to terms with and get details of what transpired on Sunday morning, we appeal to staff, students and the public to cooperate with the police and to come forward if they have any information that could help in the investigation,” said Ramogale.
