More than 3 000 identity documents are yet to be collected from the Home Affairs branch in Pietermaritzburg.
Home Affairs representative Xolani Maphumulo said of the 3 080 IDs about 2 400 belonged to people who were eligible to vote.
“We are encouraging people to come and collect these IDs,” said Maphumulo.
He added that other offices across the uMgungundlovu District also had uncollected IDs.
“In Howick, there are about 541 IDs, in Mooi River 91, in Richmond 256 and Impendle 254,” said Maphumulo.
He added that Home Affairs has also extended hours until 6 pm to allow people to collect their IDs.
