Parents of pupils attending Sukuma Secondary School in Imbali Unit 1, are picketing outside the school gate.

The parents are complaining about the shortage of teachers, the school not having a principal, the shortage of furniture and the school not being taken care of.

Speaking to The Witness on Monday morning, the parents said they have tried to raise their issues but they have not been attended to.

“We want the SGB to explain to us what is happening because we chose them to represent us when there are issues. The issue of an English teacher dates back from three years ago.

“A school principal was supposed to be employed by January this year but till now the school does not have a a principal,” said  one parent.

Another parent said : “Our children are not safe here in this school, the grass is long and is not being cut. Vagrants also jump into the school premises and rob the pupils and there is nothing that the security is doing about it because they are always sitting at the gate and not patrolling.”

The department of education is yet to comment on the matter.
