Parts of Pietermaritzburg to experience 5 hour power outages during substation maintenance

The Msunduzi electricity department has issued a warning of power outages for parts of Pietermaritzburg due to the maintenance of primary substations.

The Msunduzi electricity department has issued a warning of power outages for parts of Pietermaritzburg due to the maintenance of primary substations.

According to the statement, they will be switching off and isolating the Riverside, Woodburn and Hesketh Primary substations for maintenance purposes.

The five-hour outage is scheduled to start on Tuesday 24 May from 8am to 1pm and an alternative date is Tuesday 31 May from 8am to 1pm.

“The outage will affect the following areas, Willowton road, Orthman Road, Birmingham Road, Chesterfield Road, Vitcco park, Meadow feet, KSM Millin, Northdale hospital, Mountain rise, Sobantu, Glenwood, Woodlands, Tamboville, Thembalihle, Eastwood, Cinderella Park, Panorama, Beacon hill, Part of CBD, City East, Echo Bulwer, Parts of Bishopstowe, Scottsville, Wensleydale.

“New England Road, New England racecourse, Golf ridge estate, DUT, UKZN, Part of Pelham, Hayfields, Nedbank Plaza, Lincoln Meade, Darville, Bellevue, Bulwer Street, Prince Alfred, Midlands hospital, St. Annes hospital, Payne Street, Med city hospital, Harry Gwala stadium, Part of college road, Parts of Boshoff street, Retief street and surrounding areas,” read the statement.

The department continued to urge residents to treat all electrical equipment and installations as live at all times.
