Two brothers, aged 32 and 34, were arrested on Friday morning after they were found in possession of firearms and ammunition.
KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Nqobile Gwala, said in the early hours of Friday, a joint operation was conducted at the Village in Pietermaritzburg where the team was following up information about two brothers who were in illegal possession of firearms.
Gwala said at the house, a man was found in possession of a licensed firearm but he did not have a firearm safe.
“A further search was conducted in the house and police found two pistols concealed in a bin, which was in the toilet at the same house. Police seized 48 rounds of ammunition,” she said.
The brothers were arrested for unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition. They are expected to appear before the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
