The fire department said its team was unable to approach it because it was unsafe.

“A store has been burnt but I don’t have the details because it is unsafe.  Our team is standing at a distance. We cannot approach without the police.

“As long as the police have not removed the crowd, we can’t go in,” said the controller.

Protests on East Street started at 8 pm on Tuesday night at East and Berg streets and then moved to the intersection of East and Church streets. It then continued early this morning.

The protestors  burnt tyres and other debris.  The protests are apparently due to electricity problems.
