Sanral will be implementing a temporary road closure due to the installation of temporary lighting on the N3 from Sanctuary Road to Link Road.

Sanral will be implementing temporary road closures on the N3 due to construction work.

The South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (Sanral) has announced the temporary closure of the N3 from Sanctuary Road to Link Road.

According to the statement released by Sanral’s Eastern region Project Manager, Thabiso Dladla, this closure is to allow for the installation of temporary lighting.

“In an attempt to improve road safety in the area temporary lighting will be installed on a portion of the N3 between Sanctuary Road and Link Road (between km 16.2 and km 18.4).

“The work entails the installation of numerous 14m long poles in the median between the two carriageways,” said Dladla.

Dladla added that to provide enough space for the safe installation of the infrastructure the fast lane on the northbound carriageway will need to be closed daily from 21 July to 29 July 2022, between the hours of 9 am and 3 pm.

“The alternate route to be used by light motor vehicles only during the road closure is Old Howick Road (the R103),” said Dladla.

Sanral continued to urge drivers travelling from Pietermaritzburg towards Harrismith to use Old Howick Road and join the N3 either at Hilton or Cedara.

This follows a number of accidents that took place on the N3 near the Peter Brown offramp, one of which left 16 people burnt beyond recognition after a Toyota Quantum minibus went under the truck causing a chain reaction which resulted in a nine car pile up on 28 May 2022.
