A driver was seriously injured in an N3 accident involving three trucks after one of them allegedly had brake failure in Town Hill, in Pietermaritzburg.
The crash, which took place just after 6pm on Wednesday, resulted in the closure of both southbound lanes of the N3.
Roland Robertson, from the Midlands Emergency Service said the injured driver was treated at the scene before he was transported to the hospital for further medical care.
Robertson confirmed that there were three trucks involved in the accident.
In a video that is doing rounds on social media, one of the trucks can be seen driving down the hill before colliding to another truck.
A video was taken with a phone by another motorist who was following a truck who had anticipated the accident.
A huge smoke coming from a truck can been seen as it was driving down southbound lane.
The national route was closed on Wednesday evening as authorities worked to clear the scene, leading to a huge traffic backing up for several metres.
Wednesday’s crash follows a number of car accidents that have taken place along the N3 near Town Hill area in the recent months
