The ANC KwaZulu-Natal provincial leadership on Friday confirmed that Premier Sihle Zikalala has resigned.
According to ANC provincial secretary, Bheki Mtolo, Zikalala informed the party’s provincial executive committee (PEC) which held a meeting on Thursday that he has decided to vacated the top government position.
“Cde Zikalala offered the Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) his resignation yesterday, which was accepted.
“The PEC communicated with the ANC National Officials and were instructed to make recommendations of three names of comrades, who will undergo an interview process,” he said.

The three candidates which the PEC recommended to the ANC national leadership are treasury MEC, Nomusa Dube-Ncube, KZN Legislature MPLs: Amanda Bani and Mbali Fraser.
“The ANC accepted Cde Zikalala resignation with pain and difficulty as he was still doing a great job in the province since he took over.
“We are grateful to the job he has done for the people of this province and we appreciate that he made a conscious decision not to leave office hastily,” Mtolo said.
Meanwhile Zikalala’s office has indicated that he will hold a press briefing at 3pm.
While the Premier’s office has not divulged the purpose of the press briefing, it is widely expected that Zikalala will use the briefing to announce his resignation.
