Ho ho ho for more boxes to go!

Heaps of 'Santa Shoeboxes' are delivered in Richards Bay for Zululand children

HUNDREDS of colourful ‘Santa Shoeboxes’ are piling up at a collection point in Richards Bay as compassionate community members show their support for the worthy cause.

Every year the Santa Shoebox Project collect Christmas gifts for thousands of underprivileged children around the country – many of whom go without a gift over the festive season.

Zululanders pledged generously to provide more than 1 400 disadvantaged children across the region with presents after beautifully wrapping their shoe boxes and filling them with a variety of items such as educational supplies, sweets, sanitary products and toys.

‘We have surpassed our target and are steadily adding more facilities as pledges have streamed in from the Zululand community,’ says Santa Shoebox Zululand Coordinator Nicola Wicks.

‘We have 25 facilities with over 1 400 children in our area who will be receiving a Santa Shoebox this year.’

Bulk donors Mondi, Standard Bank, SAB Miller, Rotary Richards Bay and Rotary Empangeni delivered their vibrant boxes at Bay Stationers at the Mzingazi Waterfront on Friday and Saturday.

‘Once all the boxes are in, we will then begin the mammoth task of distributing them to all of the facilities – most being deep into the rural areas,’ says Wicks.
