A VISITOR to the Zululand shores has not had much luck in the waters this festive season.
On holiday in Richards Bay from Meyerton in Gauteng, a man was involved in a jet ski accident and sustained serious injuries.
Reports from the scene indicate that the jet ski had slammed into a large marker buoy at the Small Craft Harbour on Monday.
Netcare 911 paramedics arrived at the scene to find that bystanders had rescued the man and taken him to shore.
After paramedics stabilised him they strapped the man onto a trauma board and he was subsequently transported to Netcare The Bay Hospital for further medical attention.
National Sea Rescue Institute Richards Bay Station Commander, Cornel du Toit said that two nights prior to the incident, the same jet ski had been towed in from the harbour by the NSRI task team.
‘The jet ski had sunk and the battery was flooded,’ he explained.
