Man on mission to stamp out violence

Mtubatuba man walks against rape and abuse

ONE man’s efforts to restore faith in humanity and fight the alarmingly high rape and abuse statistics will be repeated when a eMadwaleni Reserve man, Jan Mabuyakhulu champions his 224km rape awareness walk in June.

The unemployed 40-year-old father of three boys is preparing for the journey which coincides with Youth Month and hopes to create awareness and raise funds for victims of rape and those who have lost loved one to brutal rape attacks.

He initiated the campaign after two of his friends’ young daughters were raped and killed in February.

The decomposed bodies of the two girls, who were from Jozini were found in a bush and the violent acts moved him to take a stand and speak out against these acts of violence.

Last year when he embarked on the walk, he was accompanied by KwaDukuza Mayor Ricardo Mthembu together with KZN Arts, Culture, Sports and Recreation MEC Ntombikayise Sibhidla-Saphetha who walked about seven kilometres with him on the N2.

This year he will be accompanied by celebrity deejays and his journey will be captured by a film crew.

He hopes his mission of reminding South Africans about this evil harrowing our communities will be accomplished.

Mabuyakhulu initiated a campaign called Operation Khuzumhlola at Sakhamkhanya Ward 1, which aimed at making communities aware of the traumatic effects abuse of women and children has on the lives of the victims and their families.
