Family’s possesions destroyed in blaze

Fire spread to a double garage where two vehicles were parked, but removed in time

AN Aquadene family lost most of their belongings in a fire which gutted an outbuilding and double garage on Wednesday night.

According to homeowner Jeanette Naicker, the blaze, believed to have been ignited by an electrical fault, started in the bedroom of the outbuilding next to her house.

The fire started at about 5:30pm in the building occupied by her daughter and granddaughter.

It began in the bedroom and quickly spread throughout the premises, as well as the adjoining garage where two luxury BMW vehicles were parked.

Neighbours quickly rushed to the scene and attempted to douse the blaze while waiting for the fire brigade to arrive.

Naicker said all her daughter’s furniture, electrical appliances, clothing and belongings were destroyed in the fire which ravaged through the kitchen and bathroom as well.

‘We could not even enter the premises to salvage any items. Luckily there is a wall separating the outbuilding from the garage and this gave us time to quickly move out the cars.

‘While material possessions were damaged, our loved ones escaped the blaze and that is what mattered,’ Naicker said.
