Mug a sailor this Christmas

Spread a bit of Christmas cheer.

For the eighth consecutive year, the 1st Richards Bay Sea Scout Group is preparing to bring joy to those seamen who will on board ships in the harbour over Christmas.

‘Our Christmas Mug Project sees the Scouts collect mugs and fillers in the weeks leading up to Christmas Eve, and with the assistance of the Richards Bay Fire Department we deliver these to every ship, ensuring that every sailor will have a small gift to wake up to on Christmas morning.

‘While we all look forward to the festive season, it’s time to remember those who will be far from their homes and loved ones,’ said Group Scouter, Liz Wood.

‘To this end we appeal to all our friends in the Port of Richards Bay and all over the City of uMhlathuze to contribute to this great incentive and be part of spreading a bit of Christmas cheer to those less fortunate than ourselves.’

‘The cost of each coffee mug, which is filled with sweets and biscuits, is R25; so R250 will buy 10 mugs, filled, wrapped, a handmade card with the names of the donor company clearly indicated and personally delivered to the ships on Christmas Eve.

‘Last year we delivered in excess of 460 mugs.

‘Alternatively, you may like to donate your own company mugs, filled or unfilled, wrapped or unwrapped and we will make sure they get to the ships on time.’

Contributions to this project may be made directly to:
