KEVIN Wadman, a well-known, well-loved and respected son of Mtunzini and indeed Zululand, slipped away peacefully on Monday 5 January while having an afternoon nap.
Despite failing health in the latter years, Kevin never lost the twinkle in his eye, his wry sense of humour with his witty retorts and his ability to relate to both the very young and the old.
He was an inveterate tease and his signature voice and laugh will be remembered in many corners of Zululand.
Kevin was honest, sincere to the core, constant and a man of his word who treated all people with equal respect .
Born on 3 August 1937, Kevin spent his early years in Amatikulu before moving with his parents and siblings to Windy Ridge farm just outside Mtunzini in 1946,
He attended Mtunzini Primary School, catching the train from Fort Napoleon into the village each day and from there moved on to eShowe High School and Weston Agriculture College.
Kevin later married Nicki and, together with their two children Vaughan and Janet (Jubi), they remained on Windy Ridge until 2012 when he and Nicki finally moved into the village.
Kevin was regarded highly in rugby circles, having played hooker for Empangeni and Zululand in his younger years, and, by all accounts, was at the top of his game.
His other great love was fishing and many happy days were spent with family and friends at Cape Vidal pursuing his hobby.
And finally, one cannot write a tribute to Kevin without acknowledging him as the King of Chilli and the Master of Mazavaroo.
Always in pursuit of the perfect chillies, Windy Ridge Chilli Relish and Mazavaroo has found its way to many corners of our country and even overseas.
Our deepest sympathy to his special family Nicki, Vaughan, Jubi, sister Jill and all their families.
Rest in peace Makhanda.
