Taekwondo youngster needs help to live his dream

Local taekwondo star Marnu Nel (14) set to represent KZN in the nationals

There’s no stopping local taekwondo star Marnu Nel (14), who is the reigning SA Champion in his age and belt level – Red Belt Black Tip/1st KUP – as well as weight and belt level.

1st KUP is the highest level before the 1st DAN black belt, which Nel will be going for at the end of this month.

This humble youngster, who works equally hard in taekwondo, schoolwork and extra-curriculars, has made the team set to represent KZN in the nationals in Jo’burg on Saturday.

The team from the Sealoun Sijag TKD Dohjan in Richards Bay will compete against the country’s best in the hopes of representing South Africa at the international championship later this year.

Marnu’s biggest supporter is his dad, Danie, however, a retrenchment in December meant he was unable to finance the trip to the nationals.

“The sponsors I had unfortunately didn’t materialise, so I’m looking for sponsors so my son can compete and defend his SA title,” said Danie.

Anyone willing to assist can contact Danie on 083 6611232 or do an EFT transfer.
