Brakpan SAPS collaborate with faith-based organisations

The partnership fosters unity and faith.

Brakpan police honoured an invitation from the Brakpan Seventh-day Adventist Church and attended an all-day event on Saturday aimed at creating a firm and spiritually healthy relationship with the SAPS.

Local police were presented by Sector 1 manager and communications officer Constable Audrey Buthelezi, who was accompanied by Brakpan CPF Sector 1 chairperson Simon Mabuse.

“The church had visitors and choirs from other branches. The church youth leader, Jabulani Mpofu cited that the church is also aiming to lend a hand in the fight against crime through youth development,” said Buthelezi, who was granted the opportunity to address the congregants.

She started by highlighting the importance of a collaboration between SAPS and faith-based organisations. Buthelezi emphasised that working together strengthens crime prevention efforts.

Brakpan SAPS Sector 1 manager and communications officer Constable Audrey Buthelezi addressed the congregants at the event.

“Churches have leverage on reaching out to communities and can assist with upholding trust and communication between SAPS and community members,” she said.

Buthelezi also mentioned that because SAPS members often witness traumatic events, churches can offer spiritual support services to members.

She explained that SAPS and faith-based organisations can complement each other’s strengths and work together to create a safer, more just and spiritually healthy society.

Buthelezi also pleaded for the older generation to return to the basic teachings of Christianity and instil principles and practices that form the core of faith in the new generation.

The church elders appreciated the SAPS’ representation and expressed their wish for the relationship to be extended to all faith-based organisations.
