The South African Guide Dog Association for the Blind is urgently seeking passionate individuals to open their homes and hearts as puppy raisers, and you could be the perfect fit.
What does puppy raising involve?
Raising a puppy is a rewarding experience that begins around eight weeks of age and lasts until about 16 months.
During this time, puppy raisers attend weekly training sessions at our facility and in public spaces.
Puppy raisers are encouraged to include their furry friends in daily adventures, though some restrictions apply during the first 16 weeks.
At 16 months, the puppy returns to the association for formal training, but puppy raisers can still enjoy their company at home on weekends and holidays.
Once training is complete, the association matches the dog with a new owner, ready to bring joy to another family.
Are you the right fit?
The association is looking for individuals who are:
• Dog lovers
• 18 years and older
• Calm and patient temperament
• Physically fit and capable of caring for a puppy
• Flexible with their schedule
• Available to attend weekly training sessions on weekdays for 21 weeks
• Valid driver’s license holders
