Beware! Spike gang strikes again

An employee of Ross Towing was fortunate to come out of an encounter with the spike gang unscathed.

At 01:00 this morning, a Ross Towing and Recovery employee, who asked not to be identified, was the victim of a spike gang attack on the N4.

After leaving an accident scene involving two trucks and a taxi between Wonderfontein and Alzu Petroport, the employee made his way to the Arnot off-ramp.

As he approached the off-ramp, the employee said he was driving 80km/h when he spotted three men on the side of the road. He told the Middelburg Observer that he initially thought the three men were hitchhikers.

That was until one of the men threw a spike strip onto the road. He could not avoid the strip, which caused damage to the front left tyre of the employee’s vehicle as he drove over it.

He told the Observer that one of the men was wearing overalls.

As the employee pulled over and exited the vehicle, he fired a warning shot from a blank gun into the air.

Fortunately, this deterred the criminals’ plan of action, causing them to flee from the scene.

The man then removed his car’s debris from the road and made his way home safely.

“You always have to be aware of these types of things, but I never expected this to happen at the Arnot off-ramp,” he concluded.
