Pupils dressed up as their favourite book characters while enjoying literacy workshops and fun reads.

Characters leap off the pages

Ashton International College Ballito pupils brought their adaptation of storybook characters to life on World Book Day last week.

Pupils dressed as their favourite characters, from wizards to detectives and princesses, showing their creativity and love for reading.

Each pupil also donated a new or pre-loved book, which will be shared with a local outreach programme.

Diving into story telling

Symbezi Independent School in Darnall celebrated Literacy Week with a range of fun and educational activities last week.

The initiative highlighted the importance of daily reading and encouraged pupils to visit their local libraries to borrow books, inspiring them to expand their reading beyond the classroom.

Throughout the week, pupils shared book reviews and reflected on each other’s favourite stories, which were displayed around the school. Each grade also participated in a Spelling Bee competition.

Adding a creative flair to the celebrations, pupils recited poems and performed lively skits, bringing stories and characters vividly to life.

Each pupil borrowed a book from their local library.
