Suspect linked to CIT heists, ATM bombings arrested in Olievenhoutbosch raid

Only one suspect was arrested, while the remainder are on the run.

Police are still searching for an unknown number of suspects allegedly involved in a series of violent crimes across the country.

This comes after only one suspect linked to cash-in-transit heists, ATM bombings and kidnappings was arrested in an Olievenhoutbosch raid last week.

The remainder of the suspects fled on foot.

Warrant Officer Wendy Nkabi said the suspects, a group of foreign nationals, managed to escape when police officers descended on a property in Ext 19, Shoba Maima Section.

The raid followed a tip-off linking the suspects to cash-in-transit heists, ATM bombings, kidnappings, and armed robberies.

“When police arrived at the location, the suspects spotted them and fled in different directions as officers approached,” Nkabi said.

“Police arrested one suspect who was later found in possession of an unlicensed firearm.”

The suspect was also found with 22 busting cartridges, five 9mm rounds, one brown package suspected to be an explosive, and 16 small packets believed to contain drugs.

The arrested suspect appeared at the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges related to the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Meanwhile, police investigations are ongoing to locate the other suspects.

“The docket is still at court, and the firearm has been taken to ballistics for testing,” said Nkabi.

“More information will be shared as soon as we receive it.”

Police have urged anyone with information on the whereabouts of the remaining suspects to come forward.
