Mother appears in Evander Magistrate’s Court again for attempted murder

Court postpones case to June 26.

A 25-year-old woman who dumped her newborn baby girl in a drain in an open field near Gert Sibande College on April 4, appeared in the Evander Magistrate’s Court on May 8.

She was arrested on April 8 for attempted murder.

She gave birth to the baby in the early hours of the morning on April 4 and went to Evander Hospital for a check-up after she allegedly dumped the baby in the drain.

A pedestrian on his way to work at 06:30 on April 4 heard the baby crying and contacted the police.

The mother was admitted to the hospital for heavy bleeding and the hospital staff realised that she was the mother that the police were looking for.

The court is still waiting for the social worker’s report and the case is postponed to June 26.

According to the police, the baby is in a place of safety where she is flourishing.
