As part of its ongoing drive to increase visibility throughout Sector One of the Roodepoort policing precinct, Roodepoort CPF’s Sector One Community in Blue Patrollers group, also known as SSOP, has announced the deployment of two patrollers in the area.
According to chairperson Leon Marinus, the patrollers, who will work under the Community in Blue initiative of the Roodepoort CPF, will carry out foot patrol duties five days per week and will be deployed in different suburbs throughout the sector.
This follows the recent successes in the area achieved by former community patrollers of the Siyabangena programme of the Gauteng Department of Community Safety.
“The deployment marks a major milestone for visibility and on-the-ground intelligence,” he says.
“It will enable us to have eyes and ears on the ground, and to significantly enhance quick and effective reporting to the authorities.”
The programme has already yielded success, with patrollers successfully apprehending a suspect for theft in Wilro Park on May 7.
“The suspect made a run for it when he noticed the patrolmen, but was chased down and apprehended. They requested backup and were assisted by CPF Community Patrollers and police within minutes.
The programme aims to gather real-time information and to deter criminal activity through proactive foot patrols.
“We look forward to expanding this initiative to additional sectors shortly.”
