Panorama Running Club’s seven-member half-marathon team participated in the Miway Wally Hayward Marathon on May 1 at the Centurion Rugby Club.
The event consists of a 5km fun run, a 10km run, a half-marathon (21km) and a full marathon and kicked off at 06:30 as runners from different clubs came together, marking a strong and spirited presence as the starting gun fired. Panorama chairperson Gangatha Mkele shared that in the 5km fun run, Khutso Magabe and his wife led the charge, crossing the finish line first for the team.
“Their enthusiasm and energy set the tone for the rest of the day’s event because they worked together as a team to achieve a common goal. This motivated the rest of the team to push themselves for their upcoming race and bring a positive aura to build up anticipation,” Gangatha said.
The 10km event saw Modjadji Modiba and Thalita Nkosi showcase impressive form and determination, with Modiba leading the women’s division. The 21km half-marathon was a highlight for the team, with Bongani Songongo setting a strong pace early on. The dynamic trio of Modiehi Nkopane, Thando Skosana and Yihle Mdlalose followed up with outstanding performances, rounding out a stellar show.

“I would proudly say that our club made a statement because each individual had their own goal and ran their heart out to achieve it. This is more than just a race to most of us; it brings the community together for a common goal. As we celebrate these achievements, we are already looking ahead to their next challenge, which is the Comrades Marathon on June 8,” Gangatha added.
