Vanderbijlpark youth lights up Easter for homeless

A group of youngsters from Vanderbijlpark organised an Easter hunt for two children's home as a way to give back to the community.

VANDERBIJLPARK- A group of youngsters from Vanderbijlpark decided to flip the script this Easter, turning a regular day into a heartwarming memory for children in need.

Armed with 170 Easter eggs and even bigger hearts, the group known as Elevated Deluxe, led by a community champ, Neo Pilane, brought joy to the lives of over 150 children from the Matwala Children’s Home and the Emfuleni Shelter for Boys recently.

Speaking to Ster, Pilane said they didn’t visit the shelters so they could be seen.

“The drive is a sheer movement of gratitude as a way to give back to the same community that gives us support when we host our event. Over the years, we’ve received support for our gigs, hence we see it befitting to give back,” he said.

The initiative, which featured a classic Easter egg hunt and lots of playtime, saw kids smiling from ear to ear. Pilane said the drive was made possible by his fellow business partners, family, and some residents. “

We gathered a few friends, family members, and my team. We all chipped in, some brought boxes of eggs, and the public also jumped in with donations. It was beautiful to see how one small idea turned into something so meaningful,” he said.

“This wasn’t about chocolate eggs, it was about reminding these kids that they matter, they’re loved, and they’re not alone,” added Pilane.
