Police spokesperson Colonel Donald Mdhluli said the Isuzu bakkie was reported stolen in December 2023.

“Two suspects driving in the bakkie allegedly used a cloned card to purchase about 650 litres of diesel. After the incident was reported, the police responded, and the vehicle was spotted and cornered with two occupants inside. The driver managed to alight and flee with the car keys, leaving behind the passenger,” said Mdhluli.

After the alleged accomplice was arrested, the bakkie was confiscated and processed, only to reveal it had been reported stolen in Isipingo. The diesel was ‘handed’ back to the owner.

The accused has appeared at the Standerton Magistrate’s Court and has been remanded in custody after he was denied bail pending more investigations.
