Alessia is back home

After some well-deserved time at home, eMalahleni’s cancer-warrior, Alessia,  will start radiation.

Alessia Tolmay conquered another mountain.

The nine-year-old battling cancer went in for a six-hour operation on May 7, where doctors removed all the tumors connected to her spine, they could reach.

“Any remaining cancer cells will be treated by the planned chemo and radiation,” said mom Luzaan Tolmay.

Doctors discovered the tumour when Alessia, ended up in hospital after weeks of experiencing severe back pain, which escalated dramatically when she woke up without any function in her legs.

She was referred to Steve Biko Hospital and CT scans and MRIs showed the mass connected to her spine. The mass was sent in for testing, and they confirmed that it was cancerous. She was diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma, a rare type of bone cancer.

“Thank you so much for all the thoughts, prayers, messages and love. We appreciate you all,” Luzaan said,
