Mayor Gwamanda launches youth programme in Alex

The newly appointed Executive Mayor of Johannesburg Kabelo Gwamanda and Member of the Mayoral Committee for Group Corporate and Shared Services Loyiso Masuku visit Alexandra to launch a youth programme.

The recently elected Executive Mayor of the City of Johannesburg Kabelo Gwamanda alongside his MMC for Group Corporate and Shared Services Loyiso Masuku launched the Ke Kasi Ya Rona programme for the youth in Alexandra.

The programme is said to be an integrated approach towards creating a clean, hygienic, and safe Alexandra that is designed to restore the pride and dignity of the community of Alexandra by creating a safe, healthy, and hygienic environment through collaborative and partnership efforts.

Gwamanda said, “As a young person who grew up in the City of Johannesburg, I take a lot of pride in this city. They say faith without action is dead, and I am here to acknowledge the action that you take daily into putting your efforts together to make Alexandra a better community, is a token of a possibility for the residents of this city.

“This campaign will eradicate many problems and minimise the challenges that people have in this community,”

The community will be the driving force behind the clean-up programme which is aimed at cleaning Region E which includes Alexandra and other areas. The city came with mouse catchers and took some rats with them that they will use for experiments and check if they carry or spread some of the diseases in the community, which he said will contribute towards the hygiene efforts.

“We respect that it is a community-based project that they initiated themselves as a community and came up with this initiative, but we are coming up and saying we are ready to help you.”
