Kacev Family Library leads the way with clean-up campaign

The Kacev Family Library in partnership with Kasi Yethu Initiative, Sizanani Mentors and Phuthaditjaba-Qoqizwe organised a campaign to tidy the streets of Alexandra.

The clean-up initiative which took place from Vasco to John Brand streets on April 21 brought together a diverse group of volunteers who were united in their determination to beautify their community.

Armed with brooms, gloves and trash bags, the volunteers scoured the streets picking up litter and debris. The effort was a testament to the strength of community bonds and the power of working together for the greater good.

“With this campaign, we want to keep our kasi clean and people to see that Alex is a safe place because when we talk about it people only think of a place full of dirtiness and that chases potential investors and visitors. We also want to show that we care about our community and we are willing to work to make Alex a better place,” Mabaso said.

The Sizanani manager Kimberly Mkhushulwa said, “The inspiration for us to be part of the campaign was because we have mentees and mentors from Alex and our best way to kind of bond, we do collective outings and we thought this would be the best collective outing because we are not just out but we are cleaning the same environment that those mentors and mentees are residing.

“We just want to give back to the community by making sure that the environment is clean because a lean environment means a healthy life and we also want people outside of Alex to see and get a feel of Alex as it is,” Mkhushulwa said.
