Sanco donates new wheels for an Alex resident
After a decade of limited mobility, Alexandra resident Portia Matshete's life takes a turn for the better as Sanco donates a wheelchair that restores her independence and mobility.
Physically challenged Portia Matshete (42) of Tsutsumani Ext 9 was filled with joy after she received a brand new wheelchair from the South African National Civics Organisation (Sanco).
Matshete, a mother of three children, received her brand new wheels from Sanco after hearing about her situation from her neighbours.

The donation of the wheelchair was a symbol of hope and support for Portia. The chair will enable her to move around more easily, allowing her to regain some independence and confidence.
Matshete was overwhelmed by the gesture and thanked the stakeholders from Sanco for bringing change in her life.
“I cannot even explain the feeling I have; actually I am out of words. I thank Sanco for the chair they brought for me because it’s been two years without having a wheelchair which makes it difficult for me to move around.
“Because now I have this wheelchair, I will visit my neighbours, go to the shops and also do some house chores as I couldn’t clean because there were areas I could not reach. May Sanco continue to do good for the community and may they be blessed.”

Sanco chairperson Dumisani Nkosi said, “We are thrilled to make this donation to Portia Matshete. We understand the challenges she faces daily, and we are committed to supporting our community members in any way we can.
“It was difficult seeing her always home because she could not walk to the mall, visit her neighbours or even go outside for fresh air. This wheelchair is a small gesture of our appreciation for all that she has gone through,” Nkosi said.
According to Nkosi, they have four people on their list who need wheelchairs but for now, they only managed to get one.
“We are supposed to donate four wheelchairs but because of the sponsorship we got we only managed to get one. But, we are still in search of the sponsors who may help us so that we will deliver the other wheelchairs,” Nkosi said.
