Local runners take part in the 21st Dischem marathon

The race was won by Desmond Mokgobu in a time of 1:06:41.

Thousands of runners hit the streets of Bedfordview and Germiston when the 21st edition of the Dis-Chem Half-Marathon took place.

Hosted by Bedfordview Athletics Club on January 15, the event saw 6 500 runners hit the roads.

The first woman to finish the half marathon was Lesotho national Blandina Makatisi.

Starting on Riley Road, the half-marathon took runners through the leafy suburbs of Bedfordview as they journeyed through Germiston, taking runners down AG de Witt Drive back to the Bedfordview Country Club.

The race was won by Desmond Mokgobu in a time of 1:06:41.

Elroy Gelant from Boxer Athletics Club finished second in 01:06:47 while third place went to Ian Slinger from Potch Track Club who finished in a time of 01:07:04.

The first woman to finish the half-marathon was Lesotho national Blandina Makatisi from Maxed Elite Athletics Club. She finished in 01:19:54.

Emma Pallant from Britain and Peak Athletic Club took second place in a time of 01:21:25 while Adele Broodryk of Murray and Roberts claimed third place with a time of 01:24:45.
