Suspect arrested by EMPD after high-speed chase

A male suspect arrested for not having a driver’s licence soon began insulting the law enforcers.

The EMPD Thembisa officers arrested a 38-year-old male suspect on multiple charges on May 9 in Difateng Section.

According to EMPD media liaison officer Marie Mashishi, the officers were on patrol when they noticed a white Nissan LDV travelling at high speed.

“The driver accelerated away when the officers tried to stop the vehicle.

“The vehicle started to overtake unsafely on the road. A chase ensued, and they cornered the vehicle on Spoonbill Street, Seotlwane Section.

“When interrogating the driver, he had no driver’s licence and soon began insulting the law enforcers.”

The suspect was arrested and detained at the Rabasotho Police Station.

“The suspect faces charges of failing to stop when instructed by police officers in uniform, reckless and negligent driving, crimen injuria, resisting arrest and driving a vehicle with no proper papers.

The suspect will appear in the Thembisa Magistrate’s Court.

“For safekeeping, the vehicle used in the commission of the crime was taken to the EMPD Thembisa Precinct,” said Mashishi.
