Local Rotary clubs to provide free health services

The Rotary clubs of Edenvale and Johannesburg East will volunteer at the Wannenburg Clinic in Primrose and, together with a number of NPOs, will mobilise the community into action to attract citizens to the event.

Rotary Family Health Days (RFHDs) will see civil society, big businesses and government department’s team up to promote family health and create awareness around HIV/Aids, Tuberculosis (TB) and non-communicable diseases from April 2 to April 4.

Other services which will be on offer, free of charge, over the three days include TB symptomatic screening, diabetes and blood pressure screening, measles vaccination, deworming and the dispensing of Vitamin A.

The project is an initiative of Rotarians for Family Health and Aids Prevention, Incorporated (RFHA) and is a global Rotarian Action Group and partner of Rotary International.

The project has received commitment from the Department of Health (DoH), the Coca-Cola Africa Foundation, the SABC and Caxton to support the implementation of RFHDs across the country.

The Rotary-led project has also received international support from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and agencies of the US Government who fund HIV/AIDS programs.

The family health days are a comprehensive and holistic event, offering free healthcare for parents, children, grandparents, friends and all family members at more than 143 sites across the country.

Approximately 4 000 Rotarians from 225 Rotary clubs will volunteer between 9am and 4pm daily and work at sites to assist medical staff in delivering health services to all South Africans.

The RFHA and Rotary leaders hope to one day expand the project to other African countries.
