Rea Vaya bus service arrives in Yeoville

The Rea Vaya Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) services can now be found at a bus stop near you in Yeoville.

The Yeoville route was rolled out on February 17. The Yeoville bus will be marked F11 and is a feeder service.

“This means these are the busses that feed the trunk route; they start in mixed traffic and end at a Rea Vaya Station,” said Mr Benny Makgoga, who is the director of marketing and communications for the City of Joburg’s Department of Transport.

He said Rea Vaya is a safe, fast, reliable and convenient way to travel.

“One can catch the service from an easily identifiable station or bus stop. Rea Vaya caters for all – the elderly, young and people with disabilities,” said Mr Makgoga.

He said the new service is using new busses which are clean and have been assembled or manufactured locally.

The F11 bus will run from Yeoville to the Joburg Theatre station. “We want all Rea Vaya users and motorists along the route to be safe. If you are a motorist, do not drive in the dedicated lane reserved for Rea Vaya busses. If you are a pedestrian, only cross at the pedestrian crossing. Commuters must not try to stop the bus when it is not at a bus stop. They can only get on or off at the bus stops or stations,” said Mr Makgoga. The operating times on weekdays are from 5am to 9pm and on weekends from 5am to 6pm.

“There will be a bus every three to five minutes in peak traffic and fifteen minutes during off-peak traffic. On weekends, it will be a 30-minute wait during off-peak traffic,” said Mr Makgoga.
