Community forum urges residents to stop dumping
Malvern residents have been urged to stop dumping.
Currently the suburb is marred by illegal dumping in almost every street, with anything from old household items, wet garbage and general waste.
“Illegal dumping is occurring too often in Malvern. It is an infringement of the bylaws and if caught, a fine will be imposed. You are making our environment unhealthy and are depreciating property values,” said Ms Bernadette Wentzel, from the We Love Malvern Community Forum.
The dumping is also leading to a rat infestation and attracting flies in some areas. People are concerned about possible health risks. Rubbish dumped on the pavement on days when Pikitup does not operate in the suburb is accessible to pets and people who dig through the trash without cleaning up the mess.
The forum urges residents who have problems transporting their rubbish to allocated dumps to contact block representatives who will network assistance within reason. Forum members urge residents to stop being part of the problem and to start being part of the solution. In an effort to uplift Malvern, the forum recently started a clean-up campaign. Those who participated in the first clean-up were thanked for taking to the streets. Residents are urged to join these campaigns when they take place to improve the suburb.
Residents have also been urged to report people who dump illegally.
