Two house robbers caught in the Avenues

An alert member of the Edenvale community pointed two of the suspects out to officers on the scene.

Two men were arrested this afternoon following a house robbery in the Edenvale Avenues.

The acting spokesperson for the Edenvale SAPS, Lieutenant Colonel Robbie Roberts, said four men gained access to a property in the Avenues and held two women hostage.

“The men hit one of the women with a steel pipe,” said Lt Col Roberts.

He added that the other woman was able to escape the house and called for help.

“The four men fled the premises after taking R700, a cellular phone and some jewellery,” said Lt Col Roberts.

The men were arrested close to the Edenvale Home Affairs offices.

The men were detained and taken to the Edenvale Police Station. They were found in possession of the property taken during the robbery as well keys to the house.

“The two men were wearing muthi bands, which clearly did not work,” said Lt Col Roberts.
