Saheti Primary School has made numerous strides to contribute to the Forever Wild Rhino Protection initiative.
The drive is led by Mrs Sophia Zachariou, the principal of Saheti.
Through the initiative, the school participated in several activities including themed lessons to raise awareness about the plight of the rhino.
The opportunity was also used to raise funds. Saheti pupils created artwork to place in frames which were sold to parents.
The funds generated from the exercise were used to purchase two Rhino art works, which were placed in a central area of the school.
The pupils also purchased different coloured ribbons, priced between R10 to R200, which will be tied onto a wire rhino.
The initiative will culminated in a handover function on November 7, with Dr William Fowlds, a veterinarian and well-known champion of the rhino crisis, in attendance as a special guest.
Dr Fowlds will deliver a talk to the pupils, and will then receive Saheti’s donation for the Rhino Injection Fund, which he initiated to help to treat rhinos that survived poaching attempts.
This is administered by the Wilderness Foundation and is managed under their project Forever Wild – Rhino Protection Initiative.
